Suggest some resources focused more on desert/high desert bushcraft & gear/kit setups relevant to the environments of the Southwest. The PNW, northeast and midwest is cool- forests are neat. But rain is infrequent here and wtf is this so-called “snow”?
Might break this up into multiple topics, but I’m interested in learning about
1. lightweight/minimalist bivy/basha/tarp setups.
2. who are a wealth of knowledge about bushcraft/survival in southwestern environments?
3. Anyone who posts about arid considerations who is also associated with Hit the Woodline, Sam or Coniferous I should be following?
1.)
After a couple thousand-ish miles of backpacking through Arizona, my number one setup is a poncho tarp (8’8” by 4’10”) and a simple tyvek ground sheet, just big enough for my thermarest 3/4 foam pad and pack under my feet for insulation. Part of the luxury of living in the desert is knowing a long ways off if a storm is inbound, generally speaking. If rain is expected I’ll bump it up to a 8x10 silnylon tarp. Never found a bivy sack I liked, just the tarp setup and a good down bag, waterproof shell if there‘s a chance to visit humid climates.

Ray Mears had a good episode about bushcraft in the AZ desert (high desert of SE AZ to be specific) that’s on YouTube I believe, worth the quick watch. Not too sure of any other southwest SME’s
I'm in NM and also interested. I've been looking for resources but haven't found anything that is relevant to my AO.
I’m in Yuma AZ and would like to know more as well.
